Endless Rain

This piece uses python code to control a MIDI-operated pipe organ via a graphical user interface on the computer that allows the performer to manipulate various musical parameters in real-time, such as register, stochastic density, sustain, and modulation. The system continuously generates sparkling clouds of pitches which modulate across tonal centers following a logic inspired by Riemannian modes of harmonic shift. I think of the organ here as a kind of sleeping leviathan having dreams of rain.
Due to the generative nature of the code, each performance is unique. My aim was to have a fully expressive palette of imagined sonic textures and behaviors on the organ with which I could navigate through a musical form, like steering a ship on a charted course across the sea.
